Hourly rates for attorneys can vary wildly depending upon the market and experience. Of course, a lawyer can charge whatever that lawyer thinks the market will bear. The value of the legal expertise does not necessarily rise or fall with the hourly rate charged.

Many projects lend themselves to a flat fee arrangement. Much of the work involved in probate and estate planning is often handled on such a basis. Contrary to the practice in some states, very few Texas lawyers charge a percentage fee for probating an estate.
